What is an Otorhinolaryngologist?
An otorhinolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon, is a doctor who specializes in disorders of the head and neck, especially those related to the ear, nose, and throat. The name is derived from Greek based words--oto (ear), rhino (nose), and larynx (throat).
In the past 50 years, otorhinolaryngology has expanded from "ear, nose, and throat" to a regional specialty of the head and neck. More recently, otorhinolaryngology-head and neck specialists have been subspecializing in otology, rhinology, plastic surgery of the face and neck, tumor surgery, allergy, and bronchio-esophagology.
